The Planet with an Aroma of Rotten Eggs
Solar System's outer space researchers at the University of Kansas in the United States have discovered a unique feature in a distant planet beyond the solar system. A new study has found that the planet named 'HD 189733 b' contains hydrogen sulfide gas in its atmosphere. As a result, the planet's weather is described as terrifying and smelling like rotten eggs. Scientists have revealed this based on data collected from the James Webb Space Telescope.
The scientist Guoyang Wei of Johns Hopkins University says, "If your nose can tolerate a temperature of 1,000 degrees Celsius, you will smell rotten eggs in the atmosphere of that place." While hydrogen sulfide may hint at the possibility of life on distant planets or exoplanets, scientists do not expect life on these planets due to the higher temperatures. Therefore, they are trying to find out how the hydrogen sulfide gas planet was formed.
Discovered in 2005, scientists are currently trying to learn about the atmosphere of the planet. The planet with hydrogen sulfide gas has a size and mass 13 times larger than Jupiter, revolving around its axis every 2.2 days.
